Kuhn Guides Lady Tigers Golfers to Second-Place Finish

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — LSU senior Rebecca Kuhn put together another strong spring tournament finish, shooting a four-under par 68 to finish in fourth place Sunday in the Crimson Tide Classic at the Ol’ Colony Golf Course.

Kuhn, along with freshman Lindy LaBauve, paced the LSU team to a second consecutive sub-300 round to finish second in the 12-team event.

LSU improved Saturday’s 296 to a 295 (seven-over) on Sunday to finish at 903, 39 over par. Host Alabama showed how well they know the local course shooting nine-under as a team on the final day and 15-under over the final 36 holes to finish at 861 (300-282-279), three-under par for the 54 holes.

LSU finished three shots ahead of ole Miss at 42-over par 906.

Kuhn was part of an amazing threesome on the course that included Kathleen Ekey of Alabama and Dori Carter of Ole Miss. The three golfers combined to shoot an amazing 18-under par as Kuhn’s 68 was joined by Ekey and Carter both shooting seven-under 65s. Ekey wins the individual competition with a 13-under par 203 (72-66-65), two shots better than Carter (71-69-65) at 205 -11.

Camilla Lennarth, who shot 68 Sunday, finished third at 70-69-68 (207, nine under) with Kuhn next at one-over 217 (77-72-68).

LaBauve posted her best round of the event Sunday, a one-over 73 to finish tied for ninth at nine-over par 225 (78-74-73). Amalie Valle had a 15th place finish with rounds of 79-74-76 (229 +13) with Alexis Rather in a tie for 23rd at 17-over 233 (78-77-78).

“I’m pleased with the way we played on the final two days,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “That was an amazing three rounds of golf that Rebecca’s threesome played and I’m pleased with the way Rebecca played. Alabama did some amazing things the last two rounds. We now will go home and get ready for the SEC Championships and work on a few things in preparation.”

LSU will also have freshman Megan McChrystal, the team’s stroke average leader and Caroline Martens back for the championships who were rested for this event by Coach Bahnsen. The SECs are set for Loudon, Tenn., April 18-20.
