Simons, White Named to SEC S&D Service Team

BATON ROUGE — Juniors Lauren Simons and Chris White of the LSU swimming team were named to the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Simons and White each volunteered at a number of events in the Baton Rouge community and both represent the swimming team on LSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
White’s community service hours include volunteering for an event that was spearheaded by Shaquille O’Neal to renovate Polk Elementary’s playground.
Both Simons and White participated in LSU’s BOOzar, which is a trick-or-treat evening for children held on LSU’s campus and the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program’s Christmas Toy Drive.
The two Tigers also made visits to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital and visited elementary students on “Read Across America Day.”
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
