Volleyball's Hensgens Named to SEC Good Works Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU student-athlete Michelle Hensgens was named to Southeastern Conference Volleyball Good Works Team, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The senior from Morgan City is involved in many community service projects. Hensgens helps with the annual Halloween BOOzar in October, which allows children the opportunity to trick-or-treat in a safe environment, while meeting and participating in activities with LSU student-athletes from all sports. In addition, the defensive specialist helps with the annual Christmas Toy Drive, which provides underprivileged children with gifts for the holidays through the Catholic Community Services.

Hensgens participated in the “Dig for the Cure” campaign that raised over $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation for breast cancer research and helped with the MDA Strides and Rides campaign helping raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

She participated in the SEC “Together We Can” food drive to help restock local food pantries. Hensgens also visits with sick children at the Our Lady of the Lake pediatric center several times every year.

The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community with superior service efforts.
