Women's Golf Signs Hedwall for 2008-09
BATON ROUGE — The LSU Athletics Department announced on Wednesday that Swedish golfer Jacqueline Hedwall has signed a national letter-of-intent to join the LSU women’s golf program for the 2008-09 season.
Hedwall has had an outstanding career to date as a member of the Swedish National Team. She was part of the gold medal winning team in the European Girls Team Championship earlier this year and she represented Europe in the Junior Solheim Cup Team competition earlier this fall. She won her singles match in the competition 1-up over Courtney Ellenbogen of the United States and teamed with her sister, Caroline, to win a fourball match on day one of the competition.
A native of L?ddek?pinge, she won the junior Skandia Tour Elite Tournament this year and was second in the junior Swedish Match Championships. She was ninth in the European Ladies Amateur Championship and played in the Scandianvian TPC professional event hosted by Annika Sorenstam. She will come to LSU with a present scoring average of 72.98.
“We are very pleased to have Jacqueline joining our golf program next year,” said LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen. “Her credentials are certainly of a quality that will have an impact on our golf program and we know she will fit right in with the type of team that we are developing for the future. We really are excited to have her on our team and with the other members of our team and signees I feel we will have a very talented team that can compete at the top level of women’s golf.”
