SEC West Champs Return to Soccer Rankings

BATON ROUGE — After capturing its first SEC Western Division title in program history with a 1-0 win over Arkansas on Friday, the LSU soccer team returns to the national rankings in both the Soccer America Top 25 and Soccer Buzz Top 30 released Monday.

The Tigers are ranked in the Soccer America Top 25 for the fourth time this season as they re-enter the poll at No. 25, while they crack the Soccer Buzz Top 30 for the second time at No. 30.

In addition to moving back into the Soccer Buzz Top 30, LSU holds onto its spot at No. 6 in the latest Soccer Buzz Central Region Top 15 for the second straight week.

The Tigers are also listed in the latest NCAA Tournament projection released by Top Drawer Soccer on Monday. They are ranked No. 36 in the projection and are one of five SEC teams listed, including No. 12 Tennessee, No. 16 Florida, No. 21 Georgia and No. 35 South Carolina.

With their win over the Lady Razorbacks, the Tigers clinched the No. 4 seed in this week’s SEC Tournament as they are set to take on No. 5 seed Auburn in the first round on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. CST at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.

The 2007 SEC Tournament returns to Orange Beach for the third straight season and will kick off Wednesday with four games scheduled to begin at noon at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Two semifinal games are scheduled for Friday with the tournament final set for Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
