Cooper, David Named Athletes of the Week
David scored the first touchdown of his career on a fake field goal attempt in the LSU’s win over South Carolina on Saturday. With less than a minute to go in the first half and a Tiger drive that had stalled at the South Carolina 15-yard line, LSU set up for what appeared to be a field goal attempt. However, despite a heavy rush by South Carolina, holder Matt Flynn took the snap, flipped the ball over his shoulder and into the hands of David who raced 15 yards for the score. David then remained on the field and executed the successful point after attempt.
With the play David became the first LSU player since Doug Moreau in the 1960’s to score a touchdown and also kick the PAT. He had three other successful PATs in the win.
Cooper posted a career-high 11 blocks in the Tigers’ match versus sixth-ranked Florida last week, a total that ranks as the sixth-most in school history for a four-game contest. The sophomore from Houston was also responsible for back-to-back double-figure kill games on the week, recording 11 versus South Carolina and 12 against the Gators.
Following her weekend performances Cooper is now tied for the team lead in blocks, ranks second in hitting percentage and third in kills per game.
