Yepez Named SEC Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU forward Rachel Yepez continues to receive recognition as one of the league’s premier scorers as she was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for her effort in the Tigers’ final three non-conference matches this past week.

Yepez scored a team high three goals and one assist this week as she finishes the non-conference slate as the leading scorer in the SEC with nine goals and 19 points in nine matches.

The sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., helped lead LSU to its first positive result against an opponent ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation by scoring LSU’s first goal of the match and assisting on the second in a 2-2 draw with fourth-ranked Texas on Tuesday night.

She also tallied a pair of goals in the Tigers’ 4-0 shutout of College of Charleston on Friday, including the game-winner just 1:15 into the match. Yepez displayed her quick strike against the Cougars as her second goal was scored just 1:06 into the second half for the final margin.

The Tigers kick off the SEC season at home this weekend as they welcome the Mississippi State Bulldogs to the LSU Soccer Complex on Friday in a match scheduled for 7 p.m. They follow with a match against division rival Ole Miss on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. that is set for a live television broadcast as part of SEC-TV on Fox Sports Net.
