Football Remains No. 2 in AP, Coaches Polls

BATON ROUGE — LSU held at No. 2 in the nation in both polls this week following Saturday’s 44-0 win over Middle Tennessee in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers, who trail Southern Cal in both polls, return to action this week, hosting 12th-ranked and undefeated South Carolina in a 2:30 p.m. contest in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised to a national audience by CBS.

The Tigers (3-0) received eight first place votes and a total of 1,438 points in this week’s USA Today/Coaches Poll, which was one point more than LSU received a week ago. Southern Cal continues to claim the No. 1 ranking, hauling in 44 first place votes and 1,478 total points.

In the AP poll, LSU gave back a handful of first place votes this week, going from 25 a week ago following its 48-7 win over Virginia Tech, to having 19 this week. In all, LSU picked up a total of 1,577 points, which trails Southern Cal’s 1,605 points.

Florida, Oklahoma and West Virginia round out the top five in both polls.

Other Southeastern Conference teams in the AP Top 25 include: South Carolina at No. 12, Alabama at No. 16, Kentucky at No. 21, and Georgia at No. 22. In the coaches poll, South Carolina is No. 14, followed by Alabama at No. 20, Georgia at No. 21, and Kentucky at No. 23.

Dating back to the start of the 2003 season, LSU has been ranked in the Coaches Poll for 71 straight weeks and for 70 consecutive weeks in the AP Poll.
