BATON ROUGE — LSU head coach Brian Lee announced the addition of sensational sophomore Lindsay Lum to the women’s soccer team Wednesday as the Houston native is set to compete for the Tigers beginning in the 2007 season.
Lum has elected to enroll at LSU after spending her freshman season at the University of Arizona where she appeared in 13 matches while earning nine starts for the Wildcats last fall.
“We’re excited about adding a player of Lindsay’s caliber to this team,” Lee said. “She comes from a great family, and her soccer background will fit in well with her future teammates. She will step in right away and give us one of the deepest and most dominant midfields in the SEC.”
Lum, who was one of the nation’s premier prep midfielders as a senior at Klein Forest High School in Houston, signed with Arizona as a Soccer Buzz Top 75 Recruit for the Class of 2006. She was also a two-time selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Girls Youth All-America Team in 2004 and 2005.
Lum has been coached by Lee in the past as a member of the Region III Olympic Development Program Team from 2004-06, while she also played alongside current LSU standouts Nikki Bush, Amanda Carreno and Chelsea Potts on the U.S. U-17 adidas ODP All-Star Team in 2005.
The Texan has developed an extensive soccer background while competing for one of America’s top club teams in the Challenge Soccer Club under the direction of head coach Pat O’Toole. She was a member of the squad for eight years where she teamed with current Tiger defender Brittany Lowe to win three Texas State Cup Championships from 2004-06.
Lum rounds out the Tigers’ recruiting efforts for the Class of 2007 as she joins incoming freshmen Nazily Alcoser of New Orleans and Taryne Boudreau of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, along with fellow sophomore transfer and Baton Rouge native Sarah Benson.
