MONROE, La. — The Louisiana Sport Writer’s Association (LSWA) today released the All-Louisiana men’s and women’s teams for 2007. LSU’s Ken Skupski was named LSWA Men’s Player of the Year while fellow Tiger Megan Falcon was named the Women’s Player and Newcomer of the Year.

On the Men’s side, the six-person First Team was comprised of Piotrek Banas (Louisiana-Lafayette), Shaun Ellison (Louisiana-Lafayette), Skupski, Danny Bryan (LSU), Jan Zelezny (LSU) and Vladimir Paunic (Southeastern Louisiana).

Skupski earned All-SEC first team honors for the fourth-straight year by recording a 22-15 singles mark and a 22-9 mark in doubles prior to the NCAA Tournament. He also captured 12 wins against ranked opponents this season.

Also claiming special awards was LSU head coach Jeff Brown, LSU newcomer Jan Zelezny and Cameron Knowles of Xavier. Brown was named Coach of the Year, Zelezny Newcomer of the Year and Knowles Freshman of the Year.

Making up the All-LSWA Second Team was Dellon Lorimer (Grambling), Ondrej Krivka (Southeastern Louisiana), Julien Lousao (Southeastern Louisiana), Terry Richardson (Xavier) and Knowles.

On the women’s side, the six-person First Team was Falcon, Emilija Arnaudovska (Southeastern Louisiana), Breda Kovac (Southeastern Louisiana), Jana Simurkova (Southeastern Louisiana), Iva Velkovska (Southeastern Louisiana) and Dominique Bell (Xavier).

Falcon was also named Newcomer of the Year after earning All-SEC first team honors after recording a 24-0 singles mark during the regular season. She is ranked No. 2 in the nation, the highest ranking in LSU women’s tennis history and earned SEC Player of the Year and Southwest Regional Player to Watch honors. In the fall, Falcon defeated nine ranked opponents in her run to an ITA All-American consolation title.

Myrthe Molenveld of Louisiana-Lafayette was named Freshman of the Year and SLU head coach Jason Hayes was named Women’s Coach of the Year.

Earning Second Team All-LSWA was Molenveld, Marion Lehmann (ULM), Hannah Robinson (LSU), Monica Kelly (Louisiana Tech), Daniela Posada (Northwestern State) and Bonnie Phillips (Southeastern Louisiana).
