Dollar Named Men's Basketball Assistant

BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball coach John Brady completed his coaching staff for the 2007-08 season by naming Chad Dollar as the new men’s assistant basketball coach.

Dollar, who coached last season at Murray State University, joins Associate Head Coach Butch Pierre, Assistant Coach John Treloar and Director of Operations Scott Soprych on the LSU staff.

Prior to coaching at Murray State, Dollar had served four seasons as an assistant for the Georgia Southern University squad (2002-06) and the two prior seasons (2000-02) as the Associate Head Coach at Eastern Kentucky.

In all, Dollar, whose brother Cameron played on the 1995 UCLA national championship team and is presently an assistant coach at the University of Washington, has been a college assistant coach for 12 years with other stints at Western Carolina, Southern Mississippi and Gardner-Webb.

“I am very happy and excited about the opportunity Coach Brady has given me to come to LSU and to be a part of a great program and in one of the best conferences in the country,” the 35-year-old Dollar said. “I’m looking forward to doing whatever Coach Brady has planned to continue to make this basketball program better.”

“We are certainly excited about Chad Dollar joining the LSU staff,” said Coach Brady. “He brings an experienced hand in recruiting, a solid background in coaching and I anticipate him helping to get us into the state of Georgia and the Atlanta area more frequently in our recruiting. He has strong ties in the state of Georgia as well as other places and we hope to use those relationships to keep moving the LSU basketball program forward.”

The Atlanta, Ga., native played prep basketball at Douglass High for his father, Don Dollar, one of the all-time winningest high school coaches in the state’s history. Chad was an all-city selection in 1989 and a second-team all-state performer in Georgia in 1990. Dollar was a part of a Douglass team that advanced to the Georgia Final Four and was one of seven players to sign with an NCAA Division I school.

Dollar played for three years for the University of South Florida on an NCAA and NIT postseason team, finishing his final year as an all-conference player at Milligan College where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Dollar has also spent two summers as an assistant coach with Athletes in Action, taking teams to Macedonia in 1997 and to the Ivory Coast in Africa in 2001.
