Track & Field Announces Signing of Kyle Rose

BATON ROUGE — LSU head track and field coach Dennis Shaver announced the signing of in-state prospect Kyle Rose to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday as the New Orleans native is set to compete for the Tigers beginning in the 2008 season.

Rose ? a product of Jesuit High School ? is considered the state’s top pole vaulting prospect for the Class of 2007 as he follows in the footsteps of another Louisiana high school pole vaulting standout who signed with the Tigers a year ago in current LSU freshman Josh Dominguez.

“Kyle is a tremendous addition to this team and a great way for us to round out our signing class for this year,” Shaver said. “He provides us with great depth in an event area where we already have one of the top young pole vaulters in our region with what Josh has done for us this year.”

Rose enjoyed a stellar senior season in 2007 as he recorded a new state-record vault of 15 feet, 6 inches to win the Division I indoor state title at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in February. He also set a new personal best with a clearance of 15-8 to win the Class 5A outdoor state title at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium just two weeks ago.

The Blue Jay standout also won District 8-5A and Region III titles prior to his near record-breaking performance at the State Farm/Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships where he just missed breaking Dominguez’s state record of 16-0.

Rose comes from an impressive pole vaulting pedigree as his father, Mark, was a three-time letterwinner at LSU from 1981-83 and was the SEC indoor champion in 1983 with a vault of 17-0 at the conference meet. He still ranks No. 7 on the school’s all-time outdoor performance list with a 17-5 clearance during his senior season.
