Relive LSU's Latest SEC Track & Field Championship

The Lady Tigers captured their ninth SEC outdoor title in program history and first since the 1996 season, while the Tigers earned their best finish at the conference meet since 2000 with a runner-up finish Sunday at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Among those featured are six individual SEC champions in junior Andrea Linton (triple jump), junior Jessica Ohanaja (100 hurdles), sophomore Trindon Holliday (100), sophomore Nickiesha Wilson (400 hurdles), freshman Jamaal James (800) and freshman LaTavia Thomas (800), as well as the men’s SEC champion 4×400-meter relay team.

Holliday stole the show on the final day of the competition as he broke LSU great Xavier Carter‘s school record in the 100-meter dash with the third-fastest time in the world this season at 10.08 seconds, which was more than two-tenths of a second faster than runner-up J-Mee Samuels of Arkansas (10.30).

James, a native of Trincity, Trinidad, enjoyed a record-breaking performance of his own on Sunday as he set a new national junior record for Trinidad & Tobago for an athlete under the age of 20 with the No. 4 time in school history at 1 minute, 47 seconds in the finals of 800-meter run. James is now the fourth-fastest junior half-miler in the world this season, while he also ranks 15th on the overall men’s performance list.

Linton also moved into the No. 4 spot on the school’s all-time list in the triple jump with a new personal best mark of 44 feet, 1 1/4 inches, while Wilson recorded a new personal record of her own by winning the conference title in the 400-meter hurdles by more than one second with a time of 55.77.

Ohanaja is now the reigning SEC champion in the 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles after edging Wilson at the tape by one one-hundredth of a second in the finals of the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.10, while Thomas also swept indoor and outdoor titles in the 800 meters in her rookie season with the Lady Tigers with a time of 2:05.07 on Sunday.

In addition, the men’s 4×400-meter relay team of senior Siraj Williams, senior Marvin Stevenson, freshman Armanti Hayes and senior Melville Rogers successfully defended its title from a year ago by shaving nearly one second off of its previous seasonal best time with the NCAA’s second-fastest time this season at 3:03.62.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers now turn their attention to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Columbia, Mo., where they look to defend their team titles from a year ago. This year’s meet will be held at Walton Stadium on the campus of the University of Missouri from May 25-26.
