Thomas Named to NBA All-Rookie Second Team

BATON ROUGE — Chicago Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas, who helped lead LSU to the 2006 NCAA Final Four in a stellar freshman campaign, made his first year in the National Basketball Association a good one, being named to the league’s All-Rookie second team.

Thomas was drafted fourth in the 2006 draft by the Portland Trailblazers and then was acquired in a draft exchange between Portland and Chicago on draft night. The first-year forward averaged 4.5 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game in 10.3 minutes per game during the regular season.

The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

Brandon Roy of Portland was the leading vote-getter on the first team that included Andrea Bargnani of Toronto, Randy Foye of Minnesota, Rudy Gay of Memphis, Jorge Garbajosa of Toronto and LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland. Former Louisiana Tech star Paul Millsap of Utah was also on the second team.

Thomas and the Bulls are currently facing the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals.
