BATON ROUGE — LSU outfielder Blake Dean was named Monday as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
Dean helped lead LSU to a 4-1 record last week, including a series victory at third-ranked Arkansas.
The honor was Dean’s second Freshman of the Week designation this season. He received the same recognition on April 16 after leading LSU to a series victory over Ole Miss.
Dean, a native of Crestview, Fla., hit .333 (7-for-21) in LSU’s five games last week with one homer, five RBI and two runs scored. His solo homer in the fourth inning Sunday against Arkansas gave the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish in a 5-3 victory that clinched the series win.
Dean was 4-for-13 in the series with one homer, four RBI and one run. LSU won two of three games at Arkansas in front of an SEC-record crowd of nearly 30,000 fans for the weekend.
