Falcon, Women's Tennis Coaches Receive Honors

BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis head coach Tony Minnis was named Coach of the Year while Lisa Jackson earned Assistant Coach of the Year and Megan Falcon was named Player to Watch for the Southwest Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Monday.

“I am really proud of Lisa and Megan. Lisa has been doing an unbelievable job,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “It is great that Megan continues to receive accolades for her accomplishments.”

Minnis, Jackson and Falcon will represent the Southwest Region nationally as Coach of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year and Player to Watch. There are eight regional winners up for the national award in each respective category.

This is the fourth time in twelve years Minnis has been honored as Coach of the Year in the Southwest Region. Minnis has led the Lady Tigers to a 16-9 overall record, 6-5 in the Southeastern Conference.

Jackson played a major role in leading the Lady Tigers to an SEC Western Division title while coaching Falcon, the No. 2 player in the country and 2007 SEC Player of the Year.

Falcon, a sophomore from Alameda, Calif., owns a 33-2 overall record boasting a 23-0 record in the No. 1 slot in dual play.

Minnis, Jackson and Falcon will be recognized at the ITA Awards Banquet at the NCAA Championships. The national awards will be announced in Athens, GA at the NCAA Championships on May 22, 2007.
