BATON ROUGE — LSU junior pitcher Jared Bradford and freshman outfielder Blake Dean each appear on watch lists for 2007 postseason awards.
Bradford, a right-hander from Hueytown, Ala., appears on the watch list for Roger Clemens Award, given annually to college baseball most outstanding pitcher.
Dean, a native of Crestview, Fla., is one of 112 players appearing on the watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the college baseball player of the year.
Bradford leads the LSU staff this season in both wins (8) and saves (5). He has an 8-2 record and a 3.42 ERA in 79 innings with 15 walks, 68 strikeouts and a .249 opponent batting average. He is 5-1 in SEC outings with three saves ? he has either a win or a save in eight of LSU’s nine league victories this season
Bradford turned in another exceptional performance last Saturday, as he fired a complete game in a 4-2 victory over Tennessee in Alex Box Stadium. Bradford limited the Vols to two runs on nine hits with no walks and eight strikeouts as he recorded his first complete game in an LSU uniform.
The win over Tennessee marked the fifth time this season that Bradford has started and won a game for the Tigers after LSU suffered a loss the previous day.
Dean is LSU’s leader in batting average (.335), RBI (38), hits (58), doubles (11), triples (3) and total bases (93). He posted a team-best 20-game hitting streak from March 17-April 20.
Dean was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on April 16 after leading the Tigers to a series victory over Ole Miss. He hit .429 (6-for-14) in the series with one double, one homer, three RBI and three runs.
