BATON ROUGE — LSU continued its climb up the U.S. Sports Academy Director’s Cup Standings as the Tigers jumped three spots to No. 16 in the latest release of the rankings.

The Tigers recently added 71.25 points for their seventh place national finish in gymnastics. LSU’s overall point total stands at 522, which puts the Tigers third among Southeastern Conference teams, but first in schools who compete in the SEC Western Division.

Stanford continues to lead in the overall standings with 997.5 points, followed by California with 761.5 points and Wisconsin with 753.5 points. Michigan (731.25) and Penn State (704.33) round out the top five.

Florida is the highest rated SEC team, coming in at No. 6 nationally with 688 points, followed by Tennessee in 11th place overall with 605.75 points. LSU is next among SEC teams in 16th place with 522 points. Other SEC teams in the top 25 include Auburn at No. 18 with 497.5 points, Georgia at No. 23 with 472 points and Arkansas at No. 25 with 438.08 points.

LSU’s highest point total from a particular sport thus far has come from the women’s track team as the Lady Tigers accumulated 90 points for their second place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in February.

Other point totals for LSU had the football team with 85 points for its third place national finish;  women’s basketball team with 83 points for its third place national finish; men’s indoor track and field with 65.25 points for its 10th place finish; women’s swimming and diving with 56.15 points for a 17th place national finish; men’s swimming and diving with 46 points for finishing 28th nationally; and volleyball with 25 points for advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Last year, LSU finished the year ranked No. 20 in the nation in Director’s Cup with a total of 675.125 points.

The U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Ala., is the program’s sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports ? 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
