Falcon Earns No. 2 Seed in NCAA Singles Championship

BATON ROUGE — Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team earned a singles bid to the 2007 NCAA Tennis Championships, while she and partner, Hannah Robinson, received a doubles bid, the NCAA Women’s Tennis Subcommittee announced Wednesday.

“I am really proud of Hannah and Megan. Hannah making the tournament as a freshman is quite an accomplishment,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said.

A total of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will compete in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex following the conclusion of the team championship (May 18-22).

Falcon, ranked No. 2 nationally, owns a 33-2 overall record, and is undefeated in dual play at 23-0. The 2007 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year is seeded second in the tournament and thus earns All-America honors.

The Alameda, Calif., native is the seventh Lady Tiger in school history to earn All-America honors, and the fifth to be coached by Minnis.

“Anytime you are an All-American in any sport it shows a lot of commitment,” Minnis commented. “Hopefully, we can make a good run in the tournament.”

Falcon, a First Team All-SEC selection, will join Robinson to compete in the doubles portion of the tournament. The duo are ranked 30th in the nation with a 14-5 overall record.

Robinson, a freshman from Monroe, La., has won 23 doubles matches in her first season at LSU, 14 of those coming while playing with Falcon.

All-session tickets for the NCAA Championships to be held in Athens May 17-28 are now on sale and can be purchased by visiting www.georgiadogs.com at the NCAA Tournament Central site or by calling 1-877-542-1231.
