BATON ROUGE — Four members of the No. 15-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will compete in the NCAA Individual Championships later this month in Athens, Ga. on the University of Georgia’s campus, the NCAA Championship Subcommittee announced Wednesday.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 17-22). Individual draws will be announced during the team championship.
Senior Ken Skupski was selected for the fourth-straight year to compete in the singles portion. The First-Team All-SEC member has compiled 21 wins this season, including 11 against ranked opponents. Skupski advanced to the second round of last season’s tournament before a nagging back injury forced him to retire.
Danny Bryan will join Skupski in the singles portion. Bryan is making his first appearance at the NCAA Individual Championships.
Bryan and Skupski will also be competing in the doubles portion of the tournament.
LSU’s top pair of Bryan and Colt Gaston received the No. 4 seed. The duo has posted an impressive 21-3 record this season.
The doubles team of Skupski and James Cluskey, which is currently ranked No. 22 nationally, will compete in the tournament. Skupski will be competing in the doubles portion for the third-straight year. Skupski reached the doubles tournament with former Tiger Mark Growcott the two previous seasons and the duo advanced to finals during the 2005 season. The bid marks the first time Cluskey will compete at the tournament.
The Tigers will return to action next week, when they host the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament. LSU will face Alcorn State on May 11 at 10 a.m.
