BATON ROUGE — Justin Huff of Centenary and Jared Bradford of LSU were named Wednesday as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Baseball Players of the Week.
Huff, a senior outfielder from Beaumont, Texas, was named Hitter of the Week as he batted .538 last week in four games with 12 RBI, including eight RBI in Centenary’s 14-7 win over Western Illinois on Friday. In the win, Huff hit a grand slam to register his first home run of the season. He went 3-for-4 in the contest, adding two doubles to his grand slam.
Huff had three RBI in the Gents’ 14-13 extra innings loss on Saturday, going 2-for-4 at the plate. On Sunday, Huff was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. For the
week, he had a team-leading on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of 1.000, registering 13 total bases.
Bradford, a junior right-hander from Hueytown, Ala., was named Pitcher of the Week as he fired a complete game in a 4-2 victory over Tennessee Saturday in Alex Box Stadium. Bradford limited the Vols to two runs on nine hits with no walks and eight strikeouts as he recorded his first complete game in an LSU uniform.
Saturday’s win marked the fifth time this season that Bradford has started and won a game for the Tigers after LSU suffered a loss the previous day. Bradford is 5-1 in SEC outings with three saves ? he has either a win or a save in eight of LSU’s nine league victories this season.
