Men's Track & Field No. 4 in Latest Rankings

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s men’s track and field team dropped one spot to No. 4 in this week’s Trackwire 25 rankings.

Arkansas and Florida held on to No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, with 62 and 44 points. Oregon (43) snuck ahead of Tigers (41) after a win at last weekend’s Pac-10 Championships. Florida State (36) completes the top five.

Individually, the Tigers are led by junior Kelly Willie who held on to his No. 1 ranking after successfully defending his SEC Outdoor title in the 400 meters over the weekend. He also runs on the LSU’s top-ranked 4×100-meter relay squad and anchors the Tigers’ 4×400 relay team that is again listed at No. 2 this week.

Joining Willie on those relay teams are freshman Xavier Carter and senior Bennie Brazell.

Carter remains at No. 2 in the 200 meters and Brazell dropped two spots to No. 4 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Also ranked for the Tigers are sophomore Alleyne Lett and senior Willie Bradley.

Lett cracked the decathlon rankings at No. 9 after earning All-SEC honors for his runner-up finish at the SEC Championships. Bradley moved down two spots to No. 11 in the triple jump.

For the women, freshman Kelly Baptiste improved to No. 8 in the 100 meters and sophomore Tina Harris moved up to No. 7 in the long jump.

In addition, Tanya Osbourne is ranked in the 800 meters for the first time this season. She enters the standings at No. 8.

Also ranked is freshman Deonna Lawrence in the 400 meters (No. 11) and both the 4×100 (No. 7) and 4×400 (No. 11) relay teams.

The LSU track and field team returns to action next week when they travel to Bloomington, Ind., May 27-28, for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships.
