Tigers Shutout Southeastern to Win Season Opener, 3-0
BATON ROUGE — The LSU Women’s Soccer team soundly defeated the Lady Lions of Southeastern La., 3-0, Friday night at the LSU Soccer Complex in front of the largest opening game crowd in school history. The victory marks the 16th-consecutive non-conference home game that the Tigers have won.
“I was pleased with everyone’s performance,” said LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos. “We won 3-0, but I thought we were sound in all facets of the game. I think for the most part we were able to hold Southeastern to very few opportunities, and that is a tribute to our defense.”
Senior Artie Brown scored two goals to open the game in the 15th and 22nd minutes. The two goals puts Brown into second place all-time on the goals list with 28 passing up Mandy Heintz who has 27.
“With those two goals, Artie provided a lot of electricity for us,” said Fotopoulos. ” I thought she played a solid game.”
The third goal came in the 23rd minute when sophomore Stacy Bishop scored on a penalty kick. Bishop also had an two assists in the game.
The LSU soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, Aug. 29, as the Tigers play host to the Nicholls State Lady Colonels at 2 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
