Six Gymnasts Named to NACGC Academic All-America Team

BATON ROUGE — After a stellar campaign in the competitive arena in 2004 the LSU gymnastics team added to its list of accolades Friday, as six members of the Tiger squad were named to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches’ Academic All-American Team.

It marks the second straight year, and the fifth time in the last six seasons, that LSU has had at least six athletes represented on the academic team. Athletes are honored for maintaining a GPA of 3.50 or better.

Recently departed senior Lindsay Beddow wrapped up her academic career earning the honor for the fourth straight year.

Seniors Lauren Companioni and Jade Jenkins were each recognized for the third consecutive season, while junior Kelly Lea and manager Mandy Mueller were named to the team for the second time and All-American Annie Gagnon was honored for the first time in her career.

The Tigers return to Baton Rouge Monday to begin classes and fall practice. The 2005 season begins Jan. 7 at Michigan State.
