Multi-event Athletes Start 2004 SECs

OXFORD, Miss. — LSU’s multi-event athletes kicked off action for the national champion track and field team Thursday at the SEC Championships.

After the completion of five events sophomore Kwami Roberts stands in third place in the men’s decathlon with 3,833 points. Roberts finished among the field’s top four in four of the five events, finishing third in the 100 meters (11.11), tied for third in the high jump (6-5) and fourth in both the long jump (22-3) and the shot put (43-3 1/4).

In the women’s heptathlon, Megan Akre and Dianne Harrison have tallied 2,451 and 2,348 points, respectively, after the completion of three events. Highlights included a clearance of 5-7 1/4 in the high jump by Harrison and Akre’s 14.90 in the 100-meter hurdles.

Action from the SEC Championships will continue tomorrow with the completion of the multi-events as well as the beginning of the field and running events.
