Mares Leads Clothing Drive to Aid Mexican Flood Victims

BATON ROUGE — Steve Mares of the 2003 National Champion LSU football team is currently collecting clothing through the Shaquille O’Neal/CHAMPS Life Skills Office in the Cox Communication Academic Center for Student-Athletes for victims of catastrophic flooding in northern Mexico.

The border town of Piedras Negras in northern Mexico was ravaged by flooding in April. Torrential rain caused the Escondido River to overflow, triggering flash flooding that killed 36, damaged 600 homes, destroyed 150 others and left 2,000 people in makeshift shelters. Clothing donations are being accepted in the CHAMPS office through May 14th.
