Both Track and Field Teams Ranked No. 2 in Recent Poll

BATON ROUGE — After 13 straight weeks at No. 1 in the national rankings the Lady Tiger track and field team slipped to No. 2 in latest Trackwire 25 poll, released Tuesday.

The Tigers held steady at No. 2 in the standings for a third consecutive week.

UCLA surpassed the Lady Tigers for top billing this week tallying 68 points to LSU’s 56 points. Texas (53), Nebraska (47) and South Carolina (39) round out the top five.

In the men’s rankings, Arkansas (67) held on to the No. 1 position for a third straight, extending its lead over the Tigers (49) to 18 points. Florida remains on the Tigers’ heels with 47 points, while Auburn follows in fourth (39) and Nebraska and Ohio State are tied for fifth (31).

Individually, the Tigers and Lady Tiger have 16 athletes and four relay teams ranked nationally.

Senior All-Americans John Moffitt, LeJuan Simon and Muna Lee are each ranked in two events. Moffitt and Simon own top-8 rankings in both the long jump and the triple jump, while Lee is listed among the top-5 in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
