Diving Team Signs Top Prospect

BATON ROUGE — Nicholas (Niko) Dalman has signed a letter of intent to compete with the LSU diving team, it was announced by diving coach Doug Shaffer on Monday.

Dalman, a native of Auburn, Wash., is a two-time 4A state champion in the 1-meter springboard and a six-time Junior Olympic national qualifier after earning four letters at Auburn High School.

He becomes the fourth diver in the past two seasons to attend LSU from the state of Washington. Freshmen Hali Saucier and Alyson Carlyon both hail from the state, as does men’s diver Andrew Keane.

Dalman recently placed seventh in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter at the Junior Olympic West National Championships in April. He is also a four-time NISCA All-American.

“Niko is a remarkably talented diver on all three levels,” said Shaffer. “He has a wealth of competitive experience on the Junior Olympic level and has improved each year. From the start of the recruiting process it was obvious that he was a perfect fit and will make an immediate impact on our program. I am confident that with the raw talent Niko has and a little development, it will only be a matter of time before he’s neck and neck with collegiate diving’s elite.”
