Soccer Travels to Arkansas for Final SEC Match of the Season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The LSU soccer team will face Western division rival Arkansas in its final conference match of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. at Lady’Back Field.
“This is our final conference match of the season so we obviously would like to play well and finish the year on a high note,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “We had a tough loss on Wednesday and we would like to rebound in a positive way in this game.”
The Tigers (9-8-1) are tied for sixth in the SEC West with the Lady’Backs at 2-6 in the league. Arkansas enters Friday’s match with an overall mark of 6-9-2. LSU is coming off a shocking 2-1 upset to in-state foe Nicholls State Wednesday night in Thibodaux, La.
LSU and Arkansas are meeting for the ninth time in history with the Lady’Backs holding a 4-3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams tied in the last meeting between the teams, 1-1 in double overtime last season in Baton Rouge.
Junior forward Artie Brown has scored a team-leading 12 goals this season, which is good for second in the conference. Freshman Stacy Bishop has scored 11 and senior midfielder Stephanie Keating has six goals to go with six assists. Brown and Bishop are tied for the team lead in points with 26.
The Tigers will face cross town rival Southern University on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex. LSU will honor six seniors on its annual “Senior Day” in a ceremony following the match.
