GREENVILLE, S. C. — Brooke Shelton of LSU posted a top 10 finish and the LSU women’s golf team finished in fourth place in the final event of the fall season, the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational which concluded Sunday afternoon.

Shelton, a junior, finished in a tie for sixth place at 5-over-par 221 on rounds of 75-72-74, her first top 10 of the season and the fifth by an LSU golfer in the four fall tournaments. Natalia Nicholls of Georgia was the individual winner at 1-under-par 215 (73-72-70).

The Tigers were unable to move up any in the standings as a team as the second, third and fourth place teams all shot the same score of 303 to leave the teams the same after 54 holes as they were after 36 holes. Georgia won the event with a two-over 866 score, 26 shots ahead of Tulsa at 892. TCU finished one shot ahead of LSU at 899 (35-over), while the Lady Tigers came in with a 54-hole score of 900.

Besides Shelton’s 74 on Sunday, LSU also counted a 74 from freshman Alexis Rather. Rather’s consistent rounds of 75-75-74 put her in the final standings in a tie for 12th at 8-over 224. LSU also counted a 77 from Vicky Meyer and a 78 from Devon Day.

“We feel pretty good about how we have played this fall and know we can do better in the spring,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We have some good players who have worked hard to get better and I know they will continue to work hard over the break. We are looking forward to hosting our Cleveland Classic in March and then hosting the SEC Championships here in Baton Rouge in April. We think we will be a better team in the spring.”

The Lady Tigers were ranked 32nd in the country in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings entering this tournament and in three tournaments had two thirds and a fourth place showings as a team.
