Men's Tennis Duo Wins at Beau Holton Memorial
NEW ORLEANS — LSU’s Cory Ross and Danny Bryan clinched the doubles championship Sunday in Tulane’s Beau Holton Memorial Invitational, beating Trevor Short and Kirk Jackson of Middle Tennessee, 8-5, in the bracket finals.
“They played really well in the last match,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “Especially since it was the third match of the day for both of them.”
Ross, a senior, and Bryan, a freshman, were competing together for the first time. They beat Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn of Middle Tennessee State before their singles matches.
Ross lost in the singles finals to David Caundas of Southern Miss, 6-2, 6-2. Bryan played Rishan Kuruppu of Middle Tennessee State in the consolation finals, losing 6-2, 6-4.
“This was another weekend where we accomplished something we set out to do,” Brown said. “It was important for Cory to have a good weekend since he just came back from injury. We also got to see what might be a good doubles team for us.”
The Tigers will be in state again next weekend at the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns Classic
