Tigers Ranked No. 12 in First BCS Poll

BATON ROUGE — LSU is ranked No. 12 in the nation in the first Bowl Championship Series standings, which was released on Monday by the National Football Foundation.

The ranking is the first in the BCS standings for LSU since being ranked No. 13 on Nov. 10 following a win over Kentucky last year. The Tigers opened last year ranked No. 9 in the first BCS standings.

The Tigers have a point total of 26.54 in the BCS standings, which ranks LSU percentage points out of 10th place. Oklahoma holds the No. 1 spot in the poll with a 2.77 average, followed by Miami (4.10), Virginia Tech (10.23), Georgia (12.99) and Florida State (13.14).

Ohio State starts the bottom half of the top 10 with a 13.20 average, followed by Southern Cal (13.83), Purdue (21.50), Washington State (23.96), and Northern Illinois (26.00). Nebraska is ranked No. 11 with a 26.45 average, followed by LSU.

Michigan State (27.44), TCU (28.17) and Iowa (32.07) round out the top 15.
