Men's Tennis Elminated from Southeast Regionals
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — LSU’s men’s tennis team ended its run Sunday in the Southeast Regional Championships with losses against top-five opponents.
Georgia’s No. 2-ranked Bo Hodge eliminated first-year Tiger Ken Skupski from the singles quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-4.
“Ken had some chances,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “He was up early but couldn’t capitalize. Hodge showed his experience out there.
Hodge was Skupski’s third ranked opponent in two days.
Hodge and teamate John Isner also beat the Tigers in doubles play. Skupski and Bryan Fisher lost, 8-3 in the semifinals to that fourth-ranked tandem. This was Skupski and Fisher’s first tournament as a doubles team.
“That team (Isner and Hodge) was big,” Brown said. “One guy was 6-9 and the other was 6-5. They served big and they played big.
Brown was pleased despite the team’s day-early departure. “I think we accomplished some of our goals in the tournament,” he said.
The Tigers will be closer to home next weekend at the Tulane Classic in New Orleans.
