Cross Country Heads to Fayetteville for Chile Pepper Invite
BATON ROUGE, La. — Both the LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams will face one of their biggest challenges of the season this Saturday when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 12th annual Chile Pepper Invitational to be held at Agri Park.
The meet will feature nearly 40 teams on both the men’s and women’s sides and will include top ranked teams in host Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech, in addition to conference foes Alabama and Ole Miss.
The men will be running a 10K race for the first time this season, while the women will be running a 6K race for the third time this year.
The Tigers will once again look to SEC Runner of the Week Jimmy Wiggins to pace the squad. The junior from Covington, La., has recorded three straight top-15 finishes and is coming off a 12th-place showing at last week’s Auburn Invitational.
On the women’s side, junior Katie Denton will likely pace the LSU squad as she has crossed the finish line first for the Lady Tigers in each of the last four races.
Following the Chile Pepper Invitational, LSU will take the next weekend off as it prepares for the SEC Championships to be run Monday, Nov. 3, in Athens, Ga.
