Former Tiger Ferdinand Chosen to WNBA 'Select Team'
NEW YORK — Former LSU Lady Tiger basketball All-American Marie Ferdinand is one of 10 players selected to play on the “WNBA Select” team that will compete for the United States in the FIBA Women’s World Cup 2003 next Tuesday thru Sunday in Samara, Russia, it was announced by the league this week.
Ferdinand, a two-time WNBA All-Star with the San Antonio Silver Stars, was a Kodak All-American for the Lady Tigers in 2001 as a senior and finished her career at LSU seven on the all-time scoring list with 1,648 points.
This is the first time FIBA has organized a Women’s World Cup, which is designed to bring together the world’s top women’s club teams. The United States team is comprised of WNBA first and second year players who have already made a significant impact on their teams and in the league.
Michael Cooper, the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks, will coach the “WNBA Select” team
