Cross Country Prepares for Auburn
BATON ROUGE, La. – After a two week break both the LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Friday at the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala.
The meet will take place at the Indian Pines Golf Course and will feature over 40 teams including SEC foes Alabama, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, as well as Indiana, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Troy State and Tulane.
“This is going to be one of the most competitive cross country races in the South,” said LSU cross country coach Mark Elliott. “This meet always features great competition and the course is not too difficult so I am expecting a good showing from both teams.”
Elliott plans to use the Auburn Invitational as a litmus test for SEC Championships that are just three weeks away.
“We’re taking everyone with us that is eligible,” said Elliott. “This meet is going to allow me to see who are top eight are at this point in the season and who might be our best runners for the conference meet.”
Action from the Auburn Invitational is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with the men’s 8K race and will continue with at 5 p.m. with the women’s 5K run.
Following the Auburn Invitational, both the Tigers and Lady Tigers will return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 at the highly competitive Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
