Men's Tennis Gears Up for ITA Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — LSU’s nationally ranked men’s tennis duo of Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley will start their run at a championship Thursday in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American main draw at Chattanooga’s Champions Club.

Fisher was the Tigers’ sole remaining competitor in singles play until he lost Wednesday, 6-3, 6-1, to Harvard’s David Lingman.

“Bryan started off really well,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “He was up 3-0 and then (Lingman) just caught fire.”

Fisher and Hazley were ranked No. 7 in ITA’s fall preseason poll. Two weeks ago they played in the championship game of Rice University’s Crowne Plaza Invitational. They lost to Rice’s No.1-ranked team, Richard and William Barker, 8-3.

Fisher and Hazley earned a berth in the 32-team main draw bracket of the tournament. They were one of a select group of teams in the country to earn an automatic berth.
