Women's Golf Finishes Third in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The 26th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers posted their best round of the tournament Wednesday in the final round of the Price’s Give-Em Five Intercollegiate to finish third for the second straight tournament for the fall season.

The event, held at the New Mexico State University Golf Course, marks the halfway point of the fall golf season for the Lady Tigers.

LSU shot an 11-over 299 to finish 54-holes at 37-over 901, but it was Oklahoma and Baylor who made the big final round runs with Oklahoma shooting 290 to hold on to first place with a 24-over par score of 888. Baylor posted a two-under round of 286 to come from nowhere to finish second at 26-over 890. The Lady Tigers finished one shot ahead of Texas Tech and two shots ahead of fifth place Florida State.

“We are so very close, so close,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “The hard work of this team is already showing dividends. There is still room for improvement and we are excited about going home and working on those things to try to give us a chance to move up further.”

Vicky Meyer put herself back in the top 10 with a six-place finish at seven-over 223 on rounds of 73-78-72 while Brooke Shelton after a 76 on Wednesday finished one shot back in 11th place at eight-over 224 (75-73-76). South African freshman Melissa Eaton rebounded strongly from an opening round of 82 to finish with rounds of 73 and 72 to finish in 22nd place at 11-over 227. Alexis Rather posted LSU’s other counting score on the day of 79 and finished 54 holes at 16-over 232.
