Men's Tennis Duo Advances to Qualifying Round
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — LSU’s Ken Skupski lost Monday in the final match of the Icy/Hot ITA All-American Championships pre-qualifying bracket, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to Florida’s Vlad Obradovic.
“Ken did a really good job of hanging in there today,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “He didn’t play his best but he competed hard.”
The match pitted two of college’s best newcomers against each other, each trying to advance to the qualifying round of the second-biggest tournament in college tennis.
Skupski and teammate Colt Gaston are still in the hunt to advance in doubles play. They received a bye in the last round and face Ohio State’s Joey Atas and Jeremy Wurtzman at 12 p.m. Tuesday for a chance to move into the qualifying bracket.
The Tigers’ Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley earned spots in the qualifying singles bracket. Hazley begins play Tuesday against Scott Schugg of Georgia Tech at 9 a.m. Fisher plays Oklahoma’s Yevgen Bondarchuk at 11 a.m.
