Women's Golf Ready to Play at the Price's Tournament
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The LSU women’s golf team, coming off a strong third-place finish in the opening tournament of the fall season at Alabama, returns to play Monday in the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
LSU and New Mexico State are joined by 13 other teams over the 6,319-yard, par 72 course for the 54-hole event that runs through Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers are ranked 26th in the nation off their first tournament performance and others in the field include No. 47 New Mexico State, Baylor, Kansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, No. 18 Florida State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, No. 46 Texas Tech, No. 7 Oklahoma, North Texas, Texas El Paso, Hawaii, Northern Arizona, San Jose State and Western New Mexico.
LSU as a team finished third in the Alabama-Ann Rhoads event, but also had three players – Devon Day, Vicky Meyer and Alexis Rather – in the top 10 for the event and those three will be the top three players in the LSU lineup off that top 10 finish. Joining the quintet for the event representing the Lady Tigers will be junior Brooke Shelton and one of the South African freshman Eaton twins, Melissa.
“Just like in Alabama, we aren’t worried about who is in the tournament, but we are more concerned with shooting a certain score each day and letting things fall where they may,” said LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen. “We worked on a few things from the first tournament and feel we can continue to improve and we look forward to seeing how Melissa reacts to her first college tournament.”
The Price’s Tournament is the first of three this month for the LSU women’s team to close out the fall portion of the 2003-04 college golf schedule.
