Soccer Road Trip Concludes at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU soccer team will face the Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in a match that will be regionally-televised on SEC-TV (Fox Sports Net South, Ch. 38 in Baton Rouge) to wrap up the Tigers’ first conference weekend.

The Tigers (7-2-1, 0-1 SEC) will battle the Commodores (4-4-1, 0-2 SEC) at the Vanderbilt Soccer Field, as the teams meet for the first time since a 1-1 double-overtime tie last season in Baton Rouge.

“This is a big match for us, one because it is televised, and secondly because we lost on Friday and really need to pick up a big win to get back to even in the SEC,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “Vanderbilt is a tough team and playing there will be difficult, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

LSU dropped a tough 2-0 decision to the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday in Lexington, Ky., and are 0-1 to start the conference schedule for the first time since 2001. The Tigers opened the SEC slate 2-0 last season after wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

The Tigers are 1-4-1 all-time against the Commodores with the lone win coming in 2000, Fotopoulos’ first season at LSU, as the Tigers picked up a 1-0 victory in Nashville.

LSU enters the match led by freshman forward Stacy Bishop’s 10 goals and nine scores from junior Artie Brown. The Tigers have also shutout five of 10 opponents this season.

The Tigers will return home next weekend to play host to Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
