Tigers Jump to Ninth in NCAA Regional Poll

BATON ROUGE, La. – Behind a win at the LSU Invitational last weekend the Tiger cross country vaulted five spots from No. 14 to No. 9 in the latest NCAA South Central Regional cross country rankings released Thursday.

Led by junior Jimmy Wiggins’ individual win and subsequent SEC Runner of the Week honors, LSU recorded the biggest move in this week’s poll.

The top of the men’s standings remained unchanged from a week ago as Arkansas is in first with 165 points and followed by Texas A&M (152), Texas (145), Baylor (132) and Stephen F. Austin (112). The Tigers tallied 68 points to earn this week’s No. 9 ranking.

On the women’s side, the Lady Tigers, who were receiving votes in last week’s poll, slid out of the standings despite a solid third-place finish at the LSU Invitational.

Arkansas tops the women’s standing again this week with 148 points. On the heels of the Lady Razorbacks are Baylor (141), Texas A&M (128), Texas (114) and SMU (102).

Both the Tiger and Lady Tiger cross country teams are taking the weekend off, but return to action Oct. 10 at the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala.
