HAMMOND, La. — LSU’s third-ranked Lady Tigers basketball team returns to the court Sunday to face in-state rival Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. in the University Center.
The Lady Tigers (1-0) are fresh off a thrilling 78-71 overtime victory at Arizona on Friday night. Freshman Seimone Augustus led the way in her collegiate debut. She scored a team-high 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Aiysha Smith added 15 points and eight boards, while fellow senior DeTrina White had eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Lady Lions (1-0) also won on Friday night, defeating Loyola of New Orleans 76-58 at home. Shanna Achord led the way with 15 points and four rebounds, while Pam Mathews had nine points and 11 rebounds.
This is the 34th meeting between the two schools dating back to the 1975-76 season. LSU leads the series 25-8, including 16 straight wins. The Lady Tigers also lead in games played in Hammond, 12-4, including eight straight wins. The teams have not met since Feb. 16, 1999 when LSU defeated SLU 91-45 in Baton Rouge.
