Smith Named to CLASS Award Watch List
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Aiysha Smith, a center for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was selected as one of 30 players from around the nation as a “Player to Watch” for the second annual College Basketball Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Monday by the award’s organizing committee.
Smith, a Detroit, Mich., native, led the Lady Tigers last season with 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game and has averaged 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two preseason exhibition games this year.
The Senior CLASS Award, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, was formed prior to last year. The selection criteria is bases on a number of factors, including having exhausted their four years of eligibility and have fulfilled their commitment to their respective university. The recipient must also be working toward their degree and be in good academic standing.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists by a national committee of sportscaster and sportswriters and the winner of the award be selected and announced during the Final Four.
