WACO, Texas — The 2002 season came to a conclusion Saturday for the LSU cross country teams as the women’s team finished 13th and the men placed 14th at the NCAA Regional Championships in Waco, Texas.

Arkansas swept the team titles for the second straight year as Razorbacks scored just 29 team points and the Ladybacks scored 47. Texas (74) and Texas A&M (83) rounded out the top-three on the men’s side, while SMU (49) and Texas A&M (91) went home with second and third on the women’s side.

Individually, SMU’s Karin Van Rooyen topped the women’s field running the 6K course in 20:22 and Arkansas’ Alistar Cragg came out on top in the men’s 10K race, running the course in 29:45.

The Lady Tigers’ top finisher was sophomore Katie Denton who finished 48th overall with a time of 22:39. Freshman Michelle Hymel and sophomore Katrina Flanders followed turning in times of 23:01 and 23:58, respectively.

For the men, sophomore Jarrett Roche crossed the line first for the LSU, placing 73rd with a time of 33:22. Sophomore Ben Shumaker and senior Jason Laine were the Tigers’ next two finishers, clocking times of 33:57 and 34:00.
