Smith Tabbed a Top-5 Power Forward by ESPN.com

BATON ROUGE — Aiysha Smith, a senior for the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was named as one of the top five power forwards in the nation by ESPN.com, in was announced by the website on Tuesday.

Smith, a 6-2 post player from Detroit, Mich., averaged 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds last season and was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference.

This preseason accolade can be added to her other preseason honors. She was selected as a candidate for the Naismith Player of the Year as well as a preseason second-team All-SEC selection.

Joining Smith on the list of top power forwards are Canton Hill from Oklahoma, Texas Tech’s Plenette Pierson, Mississippi State’s LaToya Thomas and Kendra Wecker of Kansas State.

Smith and the Lady Tigers open the season Friday with an exhibition game against Basketball Travelers at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center.
