Swimming & Diving Announces Schedule Changes

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s swimming and diving meet versus Arkansas and Alabama on Saturday has been moved back from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., head coach Jeff Cavana announced on Tuesday.

Cavana also announced that results from the LSU-Auburn “phone meet” will be released later this month after all scores have been compiled. The diving team could not compete by phone, and therefore the LSU coaching staff decided to make a change in the schedule. LSU will now compete in the Minnesota Diving Invitational on Nov. 22-24 in Minneapolis, Minn., where Auburn will also be competing, to complete the meet.

En lieu of the All-Star Diving Invitational on Feb. 7-9 in Orlando, Fla., the divers will travel to Minneapolis the same weekend that the swimming team will compete at the 2002 Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Nov. 21-23.

LSU and Auburn were scheduled to face off on Oct. 5 in Baton Rouge to open the season, but hurricane Lili postponed the meet and the only way to reschedule the meet was to hold a “phone meet.” Each team swam their events at their home pool and then results were recorded and compared over the phone by the coaches. Final results of the meet will be released following the divers’ trip to Minnesota.
