ESPN.com Ranks Lady Tigers Third; Johnson Honored

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s women’s basketball team received another high preseason ranking on Monday, this time by ESPN.com as the website selected the Lady Tigers No. 3 in their poll.

Junior guard Temeka Johnson was also named as one of the top five point guards in the country by the website.

Johnson, a New Orleans native, joined Vanderbilt’s Ashley McElhiney, Xavier’s Amy Waugh, Oregon’s Shaquala Williams and Iowa State’s Lindsey Wilson on the list which was selected by ESPN analyst Nancy Lieberman and ESPN.com columnist Mechelle Voepel.

The Lady Tigers add this No. 3 ranking to a host of other top 10 preseason rankings by various publications and websites.

LSU opens the 2002-03 season by an exhibition game this Friday against Basketball Travelers at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center.
