Women's Golf Struggles in Second Round; Remains 13th

AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU Lady Tigers golf team struggled in the second round of “The Derby” Invitational here Saturday, remaining in 13th place at the Auburn University Club.   

LSU was 11 shots higher in the second round than Friday’s opener and stands at 57-over par 633 after rounds of 311-322. The competition among the nation’s elite is tight at the top after 36 holes with Tennessee up two shots with a 10-over total of 586, followed by Texas and Auburn at 588. Arizona is just one shot back at 13-over 589.

LSU’s best round of the day came from sophomore Brooke Shelton, who posted a four-over 76 to go with her three-over 75 on Friday and her two-day total of seven-over 151 is tied for 26th place in the individual competition. Junior Isabel Dornellas couldn’t maintain her success of Friday when she posted a one-under 71, following up with an 83 on Saturday to drop to 44th place at 10-over 154. The Tigers also counted a 78 from Devon Day and an 85 from Erin Sarver.

Summer Sirmons broke out of a tie for the individual lead with an even par 72 in the second round to stand at three-under 141 after 36 holes. The Georgia player is one shot ahead of both Erica Blasberg of Arizona (72-70) and Diana Ramage of Auburn (69-73) at 142.

The final round is slated for Sunday.
