Doubles Duo Falls in ITA Regional Semifinal, 8-3

LEXINGTON, Ky. — LSU’s Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley won four straight matches in the ITA Region III Championship before losing to Memphis’ fifth-seeded and 29th-ranked team of Ben Stapp and Lee Taylor Walker, 8-3, in the semifinal round held on Monday morning at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, Ky.

“Bryan and Jason did very well in doubles this weekend,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “They played some of the nation’s top teams and earned some big wins in the region. I’m also pleased with our overall effort and some of the breakthroughs that our guys were able to make in the singles competition.”

Stapp and Walker advanced to the doubles final where they lost to unseeded Geoff Hiscox and Stephen Mitchell of Alabama.

“Cory and Seby also turned in an outstanding performance this weekend,” Brown said. “They knocked off a very talented Auburn team the other day and that’s definitely a win that they can build on for the dual season. All in all, it was good to see our players use some of the things that they’ve been working on in practice and they’ve all shown definite improvement this fall.”

The LSU men’s tennis team will next be in action on Friday, Nov. 1, as the Tigers host the second-annual LSU Showcase at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
